To successfully prepare your pet for transportation, follow these steps:
-
Start by microchipping your pet and obtaining an international veterinary passport linked to the microchip, if you haven’t done so already.
-
Ensure your pet is vaccinated against rabies and other common diseases. Vaccinations can be administered at the same time as microchipping.
-
After the rabies vaccination, allow a 21-day period for antibodies to develop. Use this time to prepare for the journey by acclimating your pet to its travel carrier. Ensure the carrier meets IATA standards if it will travel as cargo, or choose a soft-sided carrier for the cabin.
-
After the 21-day period, have a blood test done to check the rabies antibody titer. Make sure the titer levels meet the specific import requirements for the UAE. Please note that for the UAE, the titer test must be based on the most recent rabies vaccination and is valid for exactly one year.
-
No more than 10 days before the flight, have your pet treated for internal and external parasites at a veterinary clinic and obtain the corresponding stamp from the veterinarian in the passport.
-
Shortly before departure, obtain an International Health Certificate and a specific Health Certificate for the UAE from an official state veterinary clinic.
-
Complete and pay for the pet’s import permits for the UAE: the Import Permit and the Release Permit.
By following these steps, you guarantee the safety and comfort of your pet during transportation.
